From Under the Lights in May to a Thanksgiving Harvest
Oct 26, 2026
A challenging growing season, an impressive soybean trial, and plenty of valuable insights.
Soybean trials have always been an important part of our growing season in Neepawa. Each trial gives us an opportunity to see how different soybean varieties perform under local conditions and to gather insights that can help inform future seed decisions.
The 2026 trial began under nearly ideal conditions. Rain arrived just one hour after the seed went into the ground, giving the soybeans a strong start. However, as the summer progressed, the season brought no shortage of challenges.
A Season That Put the Trial to the Test
Hot, humid weather and minimal rainfall created difficult growing conditions throughout the summer. White mould added further pressure, followed by late-season rain that continued into harvest.
As the wet weather persisted, harvest was pushed later and later. The trial was ultimately harvested on Thanksgiving Sunday, bringing a long and demanding season to a close.
Despite the challenges, the final results were something to be proud of.
From Spring Seeding to Fall Harvest
From seeding under the lights in May to harvesting in October, this trial experienced a wide range of conditions. That is exactly what makes local trials so valuable. They show how varieties perform not only when conditions are favourable, but also when the growing season puts them to the test.

Results Worth the Wait
Some seasons test you. Others remind you why you do it.
For us, the 2026 soybean trial did both. The season presented plenty of challenges, but it also delivered valuable local insights and results that made the effort worthwhile.
